For the first time, Project Recover located a B-24 with significant help from an MIA family. The Kelly family conducted a 5-year research project into their family's MIA, 2nd Lt. Thomas Kelly, Jr., who was a bombardier aboard the plane when it was shot down.
Their research culminated in Project Recover successfully locating the aircraft in the fall of 2017.
"Any family that is persistent and attentive to detail can do what we did," said Scott Althaus, the family's lead researcher.
