During this week of Thanksgiving, we shine our MIA Spotlight with gratitude on ARM3c Robert O. Rotsel and Ensign James A. Rutledge.

 

Assigned to the USS Saratoga CV-3, the men conducted combat air patrols as the Allied fleet of 75 warships and transports headed to the Battle of Guadalcanal in August 1943.

 

 

The MIA Spotlight is made possible by a generous donation of Christine Long, first cousin once removed to ARM3c Rotsel. Her story of research and the enduring uncertainty of what happened to ARM3c Rotsel and ENS Rutlledge is a common experience. This story validates the importance of our work to bring recognition to our MIAs and healing to families and the Nation.
