Dear , Our country's missing in action Gold Star family members are both grateful and hopeful: Jo Schumacher, niece of 2nd Lt. Arthur Schumacher (MIA, 1944), was invited to go to Palau to first hand experience and contribute to Project Recover efforts. It was a stretch for her, but
she felt strongly that she had to do it. The pull was so strong that when her husband unexpectedly passed away three weeks before their trip, Jo resolved to go for both of them. “I had to do it for Arthur and for all the military. I told myself if BentProp (now Project Recover) is going to do it for complete strangers, I want to honor them and do it, too.”
“The crew lives on in all of our hearts. I think it is extremely important that all of us understand and never forget the sacrifice this generation of young Americans made for us...I was literally sobbing when I got the news. When you think about it, someone you were named after for almost 70 years and then to have them come to life. It was incredible.”
